Multi-position hoops

Multi-position hoops allow you to utilize a larger area of fabric to combine several designs or split large designs. Design components are sewn in different stitching areas without the need to re-hoop the fabric. Many proprietary and third-party hoops are available.

Multi-position hoops generally consist of two (2) or three (3) overlapping stitching areas within the one hoop. There are two main types:

Hoop type

Characteristics

Multi-position

These hoops have one bracket with multiple positions to place the hoop. Most hoops in this category have three (3) stitching areas, generally referred to as position 1, position 2, position 3 or position A, position B, position C.

Multi-position rotating

Most of these hoops have two brackets and generally only two (2) stitching areas. However, there are some specialty hoops that have more stitching areas. After stitching one area, you take the hoop off the machine and rotate it for the second.

Note: Multi-position hoops work differently to Multi-Hooping where designs are split into smaller machine files for separate stitchout on a standard hoop.

Object splitting

If your level of Hatch Embroidery supports Multi-Hooping, you will be able to split objects to work with multi-position hoops. Otherwise, each embroidery object must fit within a single stitching area as shown...

Multi-position hoop export

The fact that there are multiple stitching areas has no effect until outputting designs for machine. In most cases Hatch Embroidery will only create one file. However, if a return to a previous hoop position is required, it will create two (or on rare occasions, more) files.

To export to a format recognized by your selected machine, you use the Export Design function. The results vary depending on the machine file format. For example, PES should create a single file containing multiple parts. DST or EXP will create multiple files. Currently split files are not supported for VIP/VP3 formats.
